Paolo Zanini is Associate Professor of Contemporary History in the Department of Historical Studies at the University of Milan. His main areas of research concern the political and religious history of the 20th century: in particular, the issue of religious freedom; Catholic anti-Protestantism and the Protestant presence in Italy; the Middle East policy of the Holy See and the attitude of the Catholic world towards Zionism, Arab nationalism and the establishment of the State of Israel; progressive Catholic circles in post-World War II Italy; and the transition of the Italian political system in the 1990s, from a transnational perspective. He has published many essays and articles and four monographs on these topics.
