Massimo Baioni teaches Contemporary History and Historical Communication and Public Uses of the Past at the University of Milan. He also teaches a course in Contemporary History at the University of Italian Switzerland in Lugano. After graduating from Trieste in 1987, he received his PhD in 1992 and did postdoctoral research at the University of Turin. From 1996 to 2018, he taught at the University of Siena. He was a visiting professor at the University Paris 8 and École Pratique des Hautes Études. Both a member of the teaching board of the Doctorate in Humanistic Studies at the University of Urbino and of the editorial board of the journal “Memoria e Ricerca” (Il Mulino), he is also co-editor, with Fulvio Conti, of the history series Le ragioni di Clio (Pacini) and editor of “Parlare di storia”, the Department of Historical Studies’ online journal.
His research interests focus mainly on the politics of memory, cultural institutions and processes of nationalization, public uses of urban spaces, and museum representations of history.
