Laura Mecella holds a PhD in Ancient History and, since 2023, has been Full Professor of Roman History in the Department of Historical Studies at the University of Milan. She has been a temporary research fellow at the University of Basel and Università Europea in Rome and has also undertaken several periods of research in Germany (Köln, Münster, Düsseldorf, Heidelberg) and Britain (Oxford). She is an editorial board member of the international journal “Mediterraneo Antico. Economie Società Culture”.
Her research focuses on Roman imperial history (especially the periods of crisis between the 3rd and the 5th century CE), late antique and Byzantine historiography, and the history of classical scholarship. She has worked for the Soprintendenza Speciale per i Beni Archeologici in Rome (2000-2007) and recently collaborated in the realization of two exhibitions (“Le vie dell’acqua a Mediolanum”, at the Civico Museo Archeologico of Milan and “1938, Régia Università di Milano. Oggetto: Razza”, at the University of Milan).
