Gianluca Magro is a PhD student in Historical Studies (XXXIX cycle), holder of the Department of Excellence-funded scholarship under the project “IMAGINeS: Images and History”. His research project is entitled Immagini della scienza nella Toscana del Settecento: Giovanni Targioni Tozzetti scienziato e storiografo negli anni delle riforme. It aims to reconstruct the legacy of the scientific culture of the Accademia del Cimento in the eighteenth century starting with Giovanni Targioni Tozzetti’s work, Notizie degli Aggrandimenti delle Scienze Fisiche (1780), which contains an iconographic corpus depicting the scientific instruments used by the Cimento’s academicians in their experimental sessions. His research investigates the theme of reuse, circulation and reproduction of scientific images and drawings between seventeenth and eighteenth century, on a local and European scale. His research interests include the history of science between the 17th and 18th centuries, the history of visual culture in science, and the history of the age of reforms.
